What is a knife?<\/em><\/p>\n

An indispensible tool that has been used by humankind for the last 2 million years. Once upon a time, it was the most valuable possession one had.<\/p>\n

It is an object that appears in ancient mythology and fables, often as a symbol of sacrifice and death and is surrounded by an air of mysticism, romance, magic and enchantment.<\/p>\n

It is a status symbol and a symbol for power and masculinity. An object used for initiation rites where young boys step into adulthood.<\/p>\n

Or perhaps as it is today – a trivial kitchen utensil that simply is on hand and often in need of sharpening. The ideas of what a knife represents may be many, but the fact is that the history of the knife is long, enormously eventful and a testament to outstanding craftsmanship.<\/p>\n

It is precisely this craftsmanship that Galleri Sebastian Schildt wants to emphasize in the exhibition Six Knife Makers. <\/em>A kind of craft that is occasionally described as something performed by passionate enthusiasts for other like-minded people. A craft that is a bit on the fringes of the established contemporary craft scene.<\/p>\n

At the same time as it actually is a craft that combines all kinds of knowledge, craftsmanship and different materials into the creation of one object: steel, stone, horn, wood, leather, plastic, precious metals, jewels as well as iron forging, wood carving, engraving, horn carving, stone grinding, sculpting and much more.<\/p>\n

Galleri Sebastian Schildt invites six internationally acclaimed knife makers who are active in renewing this art form, proving that it can still be both innovative and sharp.<\/p>\n
