PETRA BUSH
TULIPOMANIA
RESTAURANG OXENSTIERNAN
Galleri Sebastian Schildt has the great pleasure of presenting artist Petra Bush’s debut exhibition “Tulipomania” at Restaurang Oxenstiernan with large oil paintings on the theme of tulips.
Through a flowing painting, Petra Bush shares her passion for the large-leaved favorite. She creeps in close and lovingly renders as the energetically ripe begins to take on new forms with sweeping petals and saturated colors.
Petra Bush captures the beauty of the tulips when they are in a transitional phase, just as she also immortalizes the fleeting life into art and a desirable permanence.
The exhibition’s title Tulipomania alludes to the Dutch great era when there was tulip fever and tulip bulbs were a hotly sought after. Tulipomania is considered the first documented financial bubble that reached its peak in the mid-17th century when a single tulip bulb could cost more than an entire farm.

Petra Bush’s love for tulips has existed since childhood. Many of her earlier textile designs were dominated by large flowers, which has broadened her approach to painting. When she paints, she is able to reflect an entire life cycle, with everything from fragility to joy and strength.
Petra Bush, born in 1964, currently resides and works in Gnesta. Having completed her education at Beckmans School of Design, she worked as an illustrator and designer for several decades for renowned companies such as H&M, Åhléns, Björn Borg, and Esprit. She has also worked for the magazine Elle and other publications, as well as for the packaging industry. In 2019, she began painting, and since then, painting has been her main occupation.
