OLLE OLLS

NATURAL POETRY IN SILVER

SEPTEMBER 24 – OCTOBER 15, 2011

Galleri Sebastian Schildt happily presents the exhibition Natural Poetry in Silver with Swedish silversmith Olle Olls. After seven years of silence, Olls is now back with an exhibition of silver corpus, completely inspired by natural shapes. Natural Poetry in Silver features vases in the form of birch trunks and soft, floating plates that appear like pools of water.

Olls is well-known for working in larger formats than is customary in silversmithing. Nature can not only be found in the silver but also in the sheer size of his works. E.g. one of his pitchers ”Spout” has the impressive height of 65 cm and weighs no less than 3 kg.

Olle Olls is one of few silversmiths in Sweden who works with hand-raising in silver, a technique where the object is hammered and shaped from a flat silver plate which can be several centimetres thick. In this way, Olls creates vases, bowls and pitchers with organic shapes that truly resonate with one another; “barbapapa aesthetics” as he himself calls it.
