Galleri Sebastian Schildt happily presents Swedish artist and ceramicist Gunilla Maria Åkesson. Her exhibition Vessels presents a dozen sculptured cylinders in red and black stoneware with many layers of nuanced and expressive glaze.
The vessels are the result of a lengthy creative process. Åkesson gradually builds the bodies of her vessels by coiling strips of clay on top of one another by hand. These empty vessels are in fact imbued with meaning and sculptures in their own right that appeal to the senses in a direct way. No two of Åkesson’s vessels are alike and yet it is clear that they belong to the same family.
