Pasi Välimaa
Pasi Välimaa’s works are recognized by their exquisite craftsmanship, an intuitive aesthetic and piercing artistry. As an aesthete through and through, and with an admirable sense for quality, silk was the material he loved the most to work in. “It is as if silk was made to be dyed and emulate nature, everything from bird feathers to fish gills”, Pasi Välimaa said.
Pasi Välimaa (1968–2019, Nystad) lived and worked in Gothenburg and London. He was a Finnish textile artist active in Sweden for many years. Välimaa had studied at Stockholm University, Nyckelviksskolan on Lidingö and held an MFA from Konstfack University of Arts, Crafts and Design in Stockholm. From 2009 to 2017, Välimaa was a professor in Textile-Body-Space at HDK-Valand Academy of Art and Design in Gothenburg. In 2004, he was awarded the prestigious Nordic Award in Textiles by the Borås Focus Foundation and in 2014, Välimaa received the Prince Eugen Medal for his outstanding artistic achievements. His work is represented in collections such as Nationalmuseum in Stockholm and The Röhsska Museum in Gothenburg.
