ANDREW HAYES

THE BOOK AS AN OBJECT

February 27 – March 17, 2021

Galleri Sebastian Schildt presents the American metal artist Andrew Hayes and his sculptural works composed of fabricated steel and books. His works represent a sinuous and strong meeting between two contrasting materials, where the different qualities of the book and steel form an unexpected and expressive union.

Andrew Hayes works in the periphery between art and craft, and his love for the materials he uses instantly comes across. The exhibited sculptures stimulate our senses through both visual impressions and tactile touch, as the combination of rigid iron and fragile book pages together result in exciting new forms and textures.

The book as an object is full of fact and story. I take my sensory appreciation for the book as a material and employ the use of metal to create a new form, and hopefully a new story.
– Andrew Hayes

Galleri Sebastian Schildt would like to thank IASPIS, LOD and MetalArt Steneby for their fine work which enabled us to create this exhibition with Andrew Hayes.
