Galleri Sebastian Schildt has the great pleasure of inviting you to the exhibition “Åke Axelsson – Nine Decades of Craftsmanship & Interiors” in connection with Stockholm Design Week.
Åke Axelsson, Professor, Cabinet maker and Interior designer, is launching a new lounge chair specially made for the gallery. It is a tribute to the high-quality craft completely in line with philosophy of the gallery.
The “Svarta Damen / Black Lady” lounge chair with accompanying footstool is made in a limited edition of thirty copies. The comfortable and sleek piece of furniture is created in black-painted birch veneer with assistance from carpenter Daniel Ericsson. “Svarta Damen/ Black Lady” has a seat in vegetable tanned leather from Tärnsjö Garveri and generous upholstery in sheepskin from Gotland made by master upholsterer Helena Engström. Each copy is labelled with Åke Axelsson’s signature and the numbered edition of 1/30.
The exhibition also offers a cavalcade of furniture sprung from a long and passionate professional working life. It is about contemporary handcrafted furniture that reflects Åke Axelsson’s lifelong achievement in the name of sustainability.
